Jesus reminds us in our Gospel reading today that we as Christian people have duel responsibility. We who are living on this earth have a responsibility to our local area and to our country. We are called to do what we can based on our state of life to influence the direction that our country takes so that the good of all is taken in to account and that moral law is followed. But Jesus also reminds us that we owe much more to God and we need to repay Him in any way we can for all of the good He has done for us. We owe God our life! Our life comes from Him alone. Jesus was willing to sacrifice everything to redeem us. What are we willing to do in return? We can start by making this world a more just place in whatever way we are able. At the same time, we need to remember that our real home is in heaven. We are here on earth for a limited time and we must do what we can to make it a better place, but ultimately our goal is to achieve citizenship in heaven! We can assure our place in heaven by doing good works that reflect our Christianity here on earth.
